Making Tornados

Making Tornados

Materials Needed:

2 - 2 liter plastic soda bottles
Tornado attachment (this may be purchased from a science/school supply store)
Food coloring or glitter (optional)

What to Do:

Fill one of the bottles with water (you may add a few drops of food coloring or glitter to make it more interesting to look at).
Screw tornado attachment onto the bottle containing the water, and then onto the empty bottle. You may want to super glue this connection together.
Place the full bottle on top and rotate the bottles vigorously in a counter clockwise direction.
A whirlpool will form in the bottle which represents a tornado.
Have a discussion with the children about severe weather safety.
